Abstract This paper presents a numerical investigation of the elastic properties of a novel hybrid polymer composite reinforced with graphene and MXene nanosheets. A finite element computational model was developed to analyze the mechanical properties of a new polymer hybrid composite reinforced with MXene and graphene taking into account the properties of the 2D nanosheets, different aspect ratios, placement options and volume fractions of nanoreinforcements, as well as the interaction effects between the nanofillers and the surrounding polymer matrix. The paper concerns the proposal of a new special device for steel frames that can be utilized as external constraint as well as internal one connecting the structure beam elements. The device is designed as a rigid perfectly plastic hinge characterized by suitably chosen stiffness and resistance. Its constituting material is steel. The elastic stiffness and the limit resistance, treated as independent of each other, are fixed with the aim of satisfying special features required to the structure. High performance PA6/CNTs nanohybrid fibers prepared in the melt

Commercial and home-made carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were plasma treated under oxygen atmosphere and then added to polyamide 6 (PA6) in order to prepare fibres by melt spinning. For comparison, pristine nanofillers were used too. The effect of functionalization and of filler characteristics on the morphological, rheological, mechanical and electrical properties of the fibres was studied by TEM and SEM, rheological measurements, tensile and electrical conductivity tests.
